Neiger Brothers Red Bead Egyption Revival Necklace

SOLD

This is a fabulous red glass bead necklace attributed to the Neiger brothers.  The biggest beads are Egyptian-themed with green-painted details.  Each bead has been hand-knotted into place with red thread.  The thread is in mostly good condition, with the knots around the rectangular bead a bit stretched and a bit bulkier than other spots.

The bigger beads have a lot of Egyptian-style detail.  The rectangular and sarcophagus beads retain their green paint but the paint on the pendant has mostly rubbed away, although the pressed glass still shows the two Pharaohs on each side.

The necklace is long enough to place over the head - which is a good thing because it doesn't have a clasp.  This necklace would be great for a Neiger Brothers collector, or anyone interested in Art Deco jewellery, particularly jewellery in the Egyptian Revival style.

Era 1920s
Size 45cm drop + 5cm pendant
Condition Good - the thread is aged in places and much of the paint on the pendant has rubbed away

Neiger Brothers

The Neiger brothers of Gablonz Czechoslovakia, known as Max and Norbert, created beautiful costume jewellery made primarily of Bohemian glass.  They specialized in exotic pieces inspired by Egypt, India and China.  The 1920s saw a peak in interest for Egyptian Revival jewellery and the Neiger brothers' popularity increased with it.  They were active from 1905 until the end of the 1930s when, as unfortunate witnesses to history, they were killed at Auschwitz.

Their jewellery is very rare and collectible because it is so different and was produced over such a limited period.

How do you rate the condition of a piece?

Excellent - No visible flaws to note but items may exhibit some signs of age related wear
Very Good - Some visible flaws which aren't considered to impair the wearability of the piece
Good - Some more notable flaws but the piece is still in collectible condition

All items are vintage and have lived a previous life, therefore signs of age related wear are to be expected. I do my best to bring attention to any faults in the description and by using the condition scale.
