Vintage Monet Opera Length Rope Chain Necklace

SOLD

This vintage Monet gold plated chain necklace is very long and can be worn full length or wrapped to created a shorter layered chain.  Understated, it features a three bead pattern of decoration at intervals along the chain.

Monet expanded their range of rope chains in the 1970s to satisfy customer demand.   The Monet ropes were 'worn in many ways' according to one Monet illustration that recommended wrapping, pinning and and tying the chains to create different patterns.

Monet were known for triple plating their pieces and as a result the finish on those items lasts longer and in better condition than other brands of jewellery.  I would imagine that's one reason that they were chosen by YSL and Christian Lacroix to produce their jewellery!

Signed 'MONET' on one side of the hanging tag and 'MONET ©' on the other side of the tag.

Monet

Monocraft, the Monet parent company, was founded by two brothers in Brooklyn in 1927. They started off creating monograms and began producing costume jewellery under the Monet name in 1937. Due to their high production quality, they eventually began producing pieces for Yves St. Laurent.  In later years they also produced jewellery for Christian Lacroix.  Because their metal pieces were triple-plated Monet's vintage jewellery tends to maintain its original finish better than most.  Read more about Monet.

How do you rate the condition of a piece?

Excellent - No visible flaws to note but items may exhibit some signs of age related wear
Very Good - Some visible flaws which aren't considered to impair the wearability of the piece
Good - Some more notable flaws but the piece is still in collectible condition

All items are vintage and have lived a previous life, therefore signs of age related wear are to be expected. I do my best to bring attention to any faults in the description and by using the condition scale.
