Vintage Dior Beaded Necklace 1961

This vintage Dior necklace is simply superb.  Made in 1961 it exemplifies the quality and design of the fashion house in that era.  The necklace chains together four styles of glass beads on three strands, all joining in the centre where numerous lengths of chain and beads form a waterfall effect.

The beads are very special.  The largest are the white layered glass beads, crackled through with metallic gold and black.  The green faceted glass beads have an iridescent coating which reflects in the light.  These are complimented by the smooth, luminous moonstone beads and pebble shaped beads painted in a muted champagne colour.

The necklace is in very good vintage condition with only a few flea bites to the surface of the painted metallic beads, only visible upon close inspection.  One of the smaller layered beads has a surface chip, but because those beads are imperfect by design, it's really difficult to find or see the chip.

The necklace has a 20cm drop with the central beaded portion adding an extra 10cm in length.  There's a short extension chain with three positions, about 5cm in total length.  It fastens with an S hook, typical of Dior necklaces of that time.

Signed 'Christian Dior 1961 ©' and comes with the original bijoux Christian Dior box and liner.

The necklace will be wrapped with care to protect the beads during shipping.

Christian Dior launched his fashion house in 1947 and from the beginning designed jewellery to complement the 'New Look' clothing he was creating. He used only the most talented and reputable companies to manufacture his jewellery designs.  You'll see pieces for Dior by Kramer, Mitchel Maer,  and Grosse.

All items were signed and many were dated.

Does Dior jewellery hold its value?

Christian Dior fashion jewellery is well worth collecting.  Dior jewellery is renowned for its quality and craftmanship as well as its pleasing designs and innovative use of art glass and crystals.  The market for midcentury Dior jewellery is exploding at the moment with prices climbing  as pieces become increasingly difficult to find.  Dior jewellery from the 1970s onwards is quickly following the upwards trajectory.

How do you rate the condition of a piece?

Excellent - No visible flaws to note but items may exhibit some signs of age related wear
Very Good - Some visible flaws which aren't considered to impair the wearability of the piece
Good - Some more notable flaws but the piece is still in collectible condition

All items are vintage and have lived a previous life, therefore signs of age related wear are to be expected. I do my best to bring attention to any faults in the description and by using the condition scale.
