Trifari Gold and Emerald Coloured Necklace
This is a very stylish vintage necklace by maker Trifari from the early 1950s. The necklace dazzles because each link is decorated with glittering emerald green glass fronds formed of three leaves with an additional small square stone completing the look. The connections between the links are also decorated with emerald glass in a baguette shape. The overall effect is very glamourous. All stones are intact and the metal plating is in excellent condition. The links display a brushed metal finish to the front and rear while the link edges and frond settings are polished metal.
Signed 'Trifari' on the hook, without the © which leads me to date this to the early 1950s.
Trifari was started in the early 1900s by an Italian immigrant to America, Gustavo Trifari.
Trifari were the first company to copyright their jewellery designs, doing so after a drawn out legal battle with another costume jewellery design company, Coro.
They patented their own non-tarnishing metal, Trifanium, which is why so many of their pieces survive in such excellent condition.
