Miriam Haskell Five Strand Green Beaded Necklace
This vintage Miriam Haskell necklace would have been designed by Frank Hess and produced in the early 1950s when they first started to sign their jewellery. The five strands feature green marbled glass beads graduating in size to the longest strand. The beads are finished with brass caps and spaced with tiny apple green beads. The necklace ends are decorated with beaded flowers, as is the hook. As is typical for Miriam Haskell necklaces of this period, the extension chain finishes with a larger bead at the end.
Overall excellent condition - One small repair to note: one brass jump ring has been replaced by a previous owner with two silver coloured jump rings, not very obvious but visible in the hook signature photo.
The necklace is choker length with a minimum drop of 15cm to the shortest strand and an extension chain which is 9cm in length.
Signed 'MIRIAM HASKELL' on the hook clasp.
Miriam Haskell started her company as a hotel gift shop in New York City in 1926. We don't know if she ever designed any of the jewellery her company produced but she was well known as an intelligent business woman. The greatest strength of any business is its employees and soon after founding the business Miriam Haskell employed Frank Hess as the jewellery designer.
Their jewellery was very popular in high status circles at the time and is highly collected today. The jewellery often reflects natural themes like flowers and vines and uses an array of materials from wood to glass and plastics and the ever popular baroque pearls. The jewellery is so popular that fakes abound. Any piece listed on this site as Miriam Haskell will have been carefully reviewed and researched. The earliest pieces, up to the late 1940s, were unsigned.
