Midcentury Blue Enamel Brooch by Ivar T Holth
This midcentury brilliant blue enamel brooch was made by Norwegian silversmith Ivar T Holth. The brooch is designed in their Victorian revival style and the top is decorated with silver gilt filigree. The enamel is on sterling silver, also gilded in a light gold wash.
The brooch measures 4cm across and fastens with a c style clasp.
It is stamped 'Sterling Norway' and also stamped with an H in a circle - Holth's mark.
The enamel is in excellent condition, without blemishes.
Ivar T Holth
Ivar T Holth registered his Norwegian silversmith business in 1943. The company continued to produce jewellery until the early 2000s. Holth jewellery is recognized for its fine and often brightly coloured guilloche enameling. Typical to Norwegian silver jewellery, popular pieces take the form of leaves and butterflies. The enameling is often a solid bold colour and is sometimes painted into floral portraits or landscape scenes. The company also produced beautifully enameled Victorian revival style jewellery.
Holth pieces are marked with an H in a circle and marked 830S NORWAY or 925S STERLING to indicate the silver content.
How do you rate the condition of a piece?
Excellent - No visible flaws to note but items may exhibit some signs of age related wear
Very Good - Some visible flaws which aren't considered to impair the wearability of the piece
Good - Some more notable flaws but the piece is still in collectible condition
All items are vintage and have lived a previous life, therefore signs of age related wear are to be expected. I do my best to bring attention to any faults in the description and by using the condition scale.
