Napier Shell Earrings 1950s
These are very rare silver plated vintage clip-on earrings by the renowned American costume jeweller, Napier. They are in excellent condition especially considering they were made in the early 1950s. The various charms take the shapes of clam and oyster shells and make a satisfying jangling sound when worn.
Stamped 'NAPIER PAT. PEND' on the clip arms and 'NAPIER' on the clip hinge. I have seen these listed from time to time as being from the 1960s however the Pat. Pend would indicate that they're from before 1955. A gold plated version of the same earrings are shown in Miller's 'Costume Jewellery' book and are noted as being from the 1950s.
The clips are still secure and ready to be used!
Napier was an American jewellery company which actually started life making silverware. In the 20s they began to create costume jewellery. Their jewellery pieces were stamped with NAPIER in block letters until 1980.
