Vintage Sterling Silver Ciro Duette Dress Clip
This beautiful 1930s brooch is costume jewellery at its finest. This vintage brooch is actually two dress clips sitting on a frame to create the look of one brooch. The clips can easily be removed from the frame to be worn separately, giving the wearer many options.
Ciro was known for commissioning their pieces from top craftsman and the quality shines through here. The brilliantly clear gems are unfoiled and sparkle magnificently. They were hand-set in sterling silver and the silver looks to have been rhodium plated to help prevent tarnishing.
Stamped 'SCP', which stood for Sterling Ciro Pearls. Also stamped 'ENGLAND'. Each clip is stamped '17' as is the main frame, indicating that the clip and frame combination are paired as they were originally.
The overall condition of this piece is excellent. The crystals shine brilliantly and don't show any signs of yellowing. There are a few minimal spots of plating wear and tarnish on the clip mechanisms which can be seen in the photos. I believe the frame and fasteners would have been made from rhodium plated alloys for greater rigidity.
Each individual clip has dimensions of approximately 2.5cm x 2cm.
Ciro
Ciro (Ciro of Bond Street) opened for business in 1917 and began selling top quality costume jewellery. They were particularly renowned for their use of imitation pearls and in fact much of their early jewellery is marked 'CP' where the 'P' stands for Pearls. They also used 'SCP' to stamp their sterling silver jewellery.
How do you rate the condition of a piece?
Excellent - No visible flaws to note but items may exhibit some signs of age related wear
Very Good - Some visible flaws which aren't considered to impair the wearability of the piece
Good - Some more notable flaws but the piece is still in collectible condition
All items are vintage and have lived a previous life, therefore signs of age related wear are to be expected. I do my best to bring attention to any faults in the description and by using the condition scale.
