Trifari Clip-Mates Pastel Fruit Salad
This pretty pastel brooch was made by Trifari under their Clip-Mates brand. Clip-mates could be worn as one brooch or pulled apart to form two dress clips. This one is particularly noteworthy because of the pastel colour palette. Trifari pressed glass pieces such as these are more often found in the darker red, blue and green colourway. It's very rare and a definite collector's item!
The Clip-Mates design was patented in 1936 dating this to the late 1930s/early 1940s.
In excellent condition, only one minor issue to note - one of the clip hinges seems a bit delicate.
It is stamped 'CLIP-MATES' on one side and stamped with the Clip-Mates patent number on the other side.
Trifari was started in the early 1900s by an Italian immigrant to America, Gustavo Trifari.
Trifari were the first company to copyright their jewellery designs, doing so after a drawn out legal battle with another costume jewellery design company, Coro.
They patented their own non-tarnishing metal, Trifanium, which is why so many of their pieces survive in such excellent condition.
