Large 1930s Eisenberg Original Fur Clip Brooch Purple

SOLD

This is a rare and collectible example of an Art Deco fur clip by Eisenberg in a purple and gold colourway.  The massive clip has obvious Art Deco geometry and is set with 18 large purple amethyst glass gems.  The perimeter is decorated with clear round rhinestones, all set in gold plated pot metal.  Eisenberg Original pieces with coloured glass are very much sought after by collectors.

The clip is signed 'Eisenberg Original' with the words split over two plaques.  This style of signature was in use from the 1930s to the early 1940s.   The clip hardware design also helps to date the piece to the 1930s as this straight prong style with the two holes was in use in the 1930s before they started adding grips to the prongs in the 1940s for extra stability.   The stone setter's mark is also visible, '1'.

The condition of the clip is very good for its age.  The stones are in nice condition without chips and the metal is in good condition for its age.  The pot metal mix that Eisenberg used during this time period was quite soft but there is only one prong on the bottom which is deficient.

Eisenberg

Eisenberg and Sons began life as a clothing company.  They introduced costume jewellery to compliment their clothing designs but the jewellery soon became the more popular of the two and the company turned their focus fully to costume jewellery.   They signed their first pieces 'Eisenberg Original'.  These were produced between the mid 1930s and the mid 1940s.  During the war years and up to 1948 they also produced some pieces in silver, which were marked 'Eisenberg Sterling'.

Dating other pieces can be confusing because they introduced the 'Eisenberg Ice' range in the late 1940s, used it until approximately 1952 then stopped marking most pieces.  After 1970 they again began to mark pieces with 'Eisenberg Ice'.

Their jewellery is admired and collected because of its fine craftsmanship and high quality crystal-set designs.

How do you rate the condition of a piece?

Excellent - No visible flaws to note but items may exhibit some signs of age related wear
Very Good - Some visible flaws which aren't considered to impair the wearability of the piece
Good - Some more notable flaws but the piece is still in collectible condition

All items are vintage and have lived a previous life, therefore signs of age related wear are to be expected. I do my best to bring attention to any faults in the description and by using the condition scale.
