Crown Trifari Sterling Silver Dangle Brooch

SOLD

This lovely dangling Trifari brooch was made during the war years when base metals were rationed.  During this time Trifari switched over to building their pieces with gilt sterling silver rather than the base metal alloys that they had previously used.  This is a wonderful example decorated with deep red crystals and accented with clear rhinestones.    Their well known designer, Alfred Philippe, would have had a hand in this design.

This brooch fastens with a roll clasp.  It's quite stiff on the backswing but opens to a 90 degree angle which is more than enough to pin on.

The stones are all present and the metal is in excellent vintage condition.  It has been only gently cleaned to retain its aged patina.

Stamped 'Trifari' with a crown over the T, 'Pat. Pend' and 'Sterling'.  There's also a '15' inside under the red gem settings which is perhaps the stone setter's mark.

Trifari

Trifari was started in the early 1900s by an Italian immigrant to America, Gustavo Trifari.

Trifari were the first company to copyright their jewellery designs, doing so after a drawn out legal battle with another costume jewellery design company, Coro.

They patented their own non-tarnishing metal, Trifanium, which is why so many of their pieces survive in such excellent condition.

How do you rate the condition of a piece?

Excellent - No visible flaws to note but items may exhibit some signs of age related wear
Very Good - Some visible flaws which aren't considered to impair the wearability of the piece
Good - Some more notable flaws but the piece is still in collectible condition

All items are vintage and have lived a previous life, therefore signs of age related wear are to be expected. I do my best to bring attention to any faults in the description and by using the condition scale.
